CEN have proposed a work items to extend EN 13523 Coil Coated Metals; Test Methods. Part 8 considers Resistance to salt spray (salt fog), Part 10: Resistance to UV light and water condensation, and Part 29: Resistance to environmental soiling (dirt pick-up). They are consulting on the program. As usual, the period for consultation is very short. Nominations for actively participating experts for all three projects are also sought. The Association has also received reports from two committees considering paints, from the meeting of ISO/TC 35 in Korea 31/5/07, and from the meeting of CEN/TC 139 in Prague on 14/9/07. As a result of these meetings, it is proposed to accept ISO/FDIS 12944-6 covering the long awaited (and much revised) standard Paints and Varnishes - Corrosion protection of steel structures by protective paint systems - Part 6; Laboratory performance test methods. The Science Council has drawn attention to proposals to phase out the financial support given to institutions for students taking second qualifications of an equivalent or lower level (ELQs) to their first qualifications.
