BSI have recently introduced a service which provides copies of withdrawn standards. Frequently, standards are replaced or revised several times during their lifetimes. In some cases, the standard has proved unworkable in use; in others, the standard has failed to meet consumer aspirations. In all cases, it is necessary to have an audit trail, so that the development of a standard can be followed, and poor technology avoided. Additionally, in some legal cases, it has proved necessary to know, some years after an event, what the state of knowledge was at the time that engineering decisions were taken. Further details on this service at www.bsigroup.com/withdrawn. Rapid changes to the educational landscape have been highlighted by the withdrawal of three Drafts for Development covering the UK's life long learning profile (UKLeaP). Dating from as long ago as 2006, they are withdrawn because they 'no longer meet the requirements of UK academia'. |
