Venue: Microsoft Teams Webinar

Date: Friday 18th June 2021

Time: 09:00 – 10:00

Post-polymerisation functionalisation could be vulgarised as decorating the backbone of a preformed polymer with small molecules. Introduction of these small molecule pendants after the polymerisation stage, allows to introduce functional groups that would not be tolerated in most polymerisation reactions. It can be used to modify commodity polymers or specifically designed polymers bearing appendixes that are unreactive in the polymerisation step, but highly reactive in specific conditions.

Post-polymerisation functionalisation of commodity polymers can also be seen as a viable route for plastic waste stream valorisation, providing a variety of upcycling opportunities depending on the structure of the waste polymer.

GISMO innovation fellow Dr Julien Doulcet will discuss new trends in post-polymerisation functionalisation and the opportunities that they present in product development.

GISMO is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund.

Who is it for?

These breakfast events are for businesses and material researchers from across the globe. We are especially pleased to invite Cheshire and Warrington SMEs to join our seminars and to gain insight into our research in polymers and the latest research challenges in this field.

Why attend?

  • Learn how smart polymers can improve the versatility of your products
  • Understand how post-polymerisation functionalisation adds complex functionality to them
  • Find out how you can use the experts and specialist facilities at Lancaster University to develop and prove smart polymers – all fully-funded

Speakers

Dr Julien Doulcet – GISMO Innovation Fellow for Chemicals & Hydrogen
