Abstract:

“Established in 1879, the Colour Chemistry department is the world-leading institute for applied research and teaching of colour, colourants and surface-coating sciences, substantiated by having hosted Prof Arthur Perkin FRS (son of Sir William Perkin FRS – the inventor of man-made dye and pioneer of British chemical industry) and Prof Ian Rattee OBE FRS (the inventor of reactive dye), an outstanding track record of successful industrial R&D collaborations, creation of many ground-breaking technologies and the very successful, unique MSc Polymers, Colourants and Fine Chemicals programme. The session will consist of three showcases including Advanced Colour and Polymer Science at Leeds in some detail, opportunities for Knowledge Transfer Partnerships with industrial partners here in the UK and opportunities for external facing student engagements.”

Speaker Profile - Long Lin

Advanced Colour and Polymer Science at Leeds

University of Leeds

Long is the Professor of Colour and Polymer Science, the Head of Department of Colour Science, the founding Directors of the DP Centre of Industrial Collaboration, and the Colour and Textile Science Centre, at Leeds University, UK.  He is the Editor-in-Chief of China Coatings Journal (SinoStar Intl., HK) and Pigment and Resin Technology - The International Journal of Colorants, Polymers and Colour Applications (Emerald Publications, UK).  He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry; a Fellow of Technology of Surface Coatings; a Fellow of the Institute of Paper, Printing and Publication; a Chartered Chemist; and an Honouary Member of the Worshipful Company of Clothworkers of the City of London.  Long has spent the last 30 years collaborating with printing, coating, textile and related raw materials industries and has completed a significant number of R&D projects for these industries.  He has authored over 200 published papers/patents/confidential technical reports.
