Abstract:
The next level of anti-scratch coating surfaces – a new concept of nano sized silica Additives.
While visual appearance is representing one of the most important criteria when buying a car, furniture or other life style object, surface robustness makes all the difference when it comes to daily use.
Re engineered nanosized silica Additives allow higher liquid / air interface enrichment while requiring less dosage. Today’s presentation focuses on a new Additive that can improve scratch / mar performance in SB, HS, UHS, 100% as well as radiation curing highly transparent top & clear coats.

Bernhard Hirschmann joined HOECHST VIANOVA in 1988 where he started his career in the polymer research department. After studying chemistry and engineering in Graz and Zürich he worked as chemical engineer and held several positions in different functions like R&D for acrylic polymers, analytics and up scaling processes in different production plants.
In 2001 Bernhard moved to the company’s ADDITIVES business unit where he started to build up a worldwide troubleshooting force – later he took over the technical leader position for CYTEC Coating Additives.
In 2008 he was announced as the company’s first “business development manager” responsible to drive global innovation and trend setting for new Additive solutions.
Between 2012 and 2015 he studied business management & marketing at ZfU International Business School in Zürich.
In 2015 Bernhard has been given the “Global Segment Lead” for ALLNEX’s Additives business.
In 2018 the new global Additives unit was established where he is heading the Business Development and leading the global Additives innovation & product development.
Bernhard has over 30 years of experience in the paint and coatings industry.

Graduated from Utrecht University in the field of organic chemistry and catalysis. Started his professional career in 2003 with AkzoNobel Automotive and Aerospace Coatings where he has held various R&D positions, with main focus on the Vehicle Refinish market. Since 2015 active as TS & BD manager with main focus on the VR, OEM and Industrial coating markets.
