Abstract:
Paint manufacturers have to deal with regulations that are more and more constraining and restrictive, this compels them to regularly improve their paint formulations. The protection of the environment on an international scale also requires new restrictions one year after another on VOC and specific substances.
Paints manufacturers therefore opt more and more for waterborne systems, with a complexity in formulation that is superior to that of solvent borne systems. Indeed, there are numerous interactions between the ingredients, and a particular attention must be paid to water resistant properties as well as adhesion properties on metal. ASCOTEC has developed unique technologies which can help to develop anticorrosive coatings with high performance, especially for Direct To Metal (DTM) applications. Provided that each of the paint’s main ingredients is meticulously selected, it is possible to develop anticorrosive waterborne paints that can resist to corrosivity environment C4 and even C5, with low levels of VOC and without pictogram on labelling.
